It is a device that monitors the activity of your well pump.
How does it work?
After installation of the Well Counter interface module any well pump activity will be logged on your computer with a timestamp. The Well Counter software can then provide you with some valuable information.
What can a Well Counter tell you?
Well Counter will monitor your well pump activity and tell you whether your well pump is on or off
Well Counter will log the on and off time to a file, calculate how many times your pump turned on each hour, day, week, month and year. It will also tell you how long the pump stayed on and calculate averages.
By multiplying the on-time by the flow rate of your pump you will know how much water you are using.
By multiplying the on-time by the power rating of your pump and the cost per kWh you will know what your cost is to pump the water.
You will also know at what time of the day your have high and low water demand. This can help you schedule events like turning on sprinkler systems or topping off your pool. This information can be useful to keep your well from running dry.
By looking at off-hours you can see if there is a problem with the system. For example; If your pump comes on once every hour at night when you are normally not using much water, you can make the following deduction. You may have a leak under the house or you may have a worn foot valve at the pump, a problem that is almost impossible to detect since there is no spilled water anywhere.
Well Counter can also help you determining other problems, like a pump that is short cycling due to a problem with the pressure tank. Short cycling is the number one cause for premature pump failure. With Well Counter you can set a normal pump cycle time and an alarm will be triggered any time a shorter pump cycle occurs. This will allow you to do preventive maintenance before your pump is damaged.
